Tammy joins our Hall of Fame elite

19 October 2020

RAH enrolled nurse Tammy Bornhoeft has taken out the ANMF (SA Branch)’s holy grail, the Hall of Fame Award.

Tammy, who works in the acute medical unit, is an active Worksite Representative and has been a member of the ANMF (SA Branch) Council since 2010. She was nominated for the Hall of Fame Award by a colleague, RAH enrolled nurse Douglas Barton, who described her as a leader.

“She shows care towards graduate nurses, guides them through difficult times on the ward. Always offers support and sharing her experience and knowledge,’’ Mr Barton said.

“Tammy has been proactive for our wage increase and has appeared on union ads, to promote the nurses’ cause.’’

Mr Barton described Tammy as an “unsung hero”, “in the trenches going above and beyond, supporting all those around her. She is very approachable and non-judgmental, and willing to listen to and help all.  Tammy loves what she does and it shows in all of her actions and interactions.

“It could be easy to overlook Tammy, as she doesn't go looking for accolades, but she has a positive effect on those around her. She can’t help but shine.’’

Speaking at the awards, Tammy said she was “honoured and humbled.”

“I do know quite a few other people like Gay (former ANMFSA president Gay Martin) and she’s won the Hall of Fame. I don’t think of myself as somebody who has done as many outstanding things as she has,’’ she said.

“I’m just a normal nurse. I’ve just looked after people and people I work with and I just love my job, it’s what I do.’’
