Nursing Skills Refresher Course

Course Information

The Nursing Skills Refresher Course is for Registered and Enrolled nurses who hold a current Ahpra registration and are looking to refresh their nursing skills prior to entering or returning to the workforce.

The course is designed to refresh and update foundational acute clinical skills, knowledge and build confidence.

Course Content

Topics covered within the course modules include:

   -   Application of professional standards, codes of practice, guidelines into the acute care setting
   -   Frontline assessment and implementation within documentation/EMR systems in acute setting
   -   Responding to the deteriorating acute patient
   -   Interpersonal effectiveness/communication within the acute health environment
   -   Infection control/manual handling/PAC
   -   Medication management within the acute care environment
   -   Clinical skills refresher and simulation workshops – IDC, Wound, Venepuncture etc

This course refreshes foundational acute clinical skills for RN’s and EN’s only. Please note this does not include advanced nursing skills.

Target Audience

Specific course for nurses returning to the workforce who have been out of the workforce less than 5 years, nurses who are employed in the non-acute care sectors and wish to transition to the acute care sector, new graduate nurses looking to build confidence and skills in nursing prior to employment.

Entry Requirements

Must hold a current Ahpra Registration without conditions.

Please be aware that, as part of our fit to practice requirements, participants need to be physically able to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor. We kindly ask that participants acknowledge that those unable to participate in all activities may not receive a certificate at the end of the course.
