AHPRA consultation: have your say

June 2026

AHPRA and the National Boards are seeking feedback on proposed changes to Recency of Practice (ROP) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) registration requirements.

Because these changes will apply nationally, it’s important they accurately reflect the realities of practice in South Australia.

What’s proposed?

Recency of Practice (ROP):

  • 450 hours over three years, or 150 hours in the past 12 months
(previously 450 hours over five years)
  • Increased expectations when moving into new practice areas

Continuing Professional Development (CPD):

  • A principles-based approach
  • A minimum of 20 hours per year, including five hours of interactive CPD
  • An additional 10 hours for nurses with endorsement or advanced/specialised skills
