The Productivity Commission’s Report on Workplace Relations was released just before Christmas. The report suggested cutting the Sunday penalty rate back to the Saturday rate in retail, hospitality and other non-essential services.
While penalty rates for the health care industry were not targeted in the report, we believe that any cuts to penalty rates in retail and hospitality will, ultimately, be used as an excuse to make further changes in other industries – including our own.
Accordingly, the ANMF will strongly protest any cuts to penalty rates and is calling on the Federal Government to commit to protecting weekend, shift work and public holiday penalty rates for all workers across Australia.
We will keep all members update on our progress in this area. In the meantime, you can sign our petition to save penalty rates here.
