Basic Life Support
CPD 3 hours

This 3-hour session will enable participants to maintain their annual competency in this area and will include an overview of the current Australian Resuscitation Guidelines.

This session will allow participants the opportunity to review and practice the principles of basic life support including the use of an automated external defibrillator.

Reclassification
CPD 4 hours

These workshops are designed to support registered nurses and midwives at level 1 who are eligible for reclassification to Clinical Nurse/Midwife, Level 2. The four-hour workshop is interactive with a ’hands on’ approach to equip participants to apply for reclassification.

Manual Handling Mentor Training – 2 day workshop

This course is designed to give participants the confidence to become Manual Handling mentors within their work place, or an opportunity to enhance existing skills. The course includes the achievement of 2 nationally accredited units of competency:

HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely

BSBFLM312 Contribute to team effectiveness

And combines this learning with “No lift no injury” principles of safe manual handling

The course is designed to enable participants to complete learning and assessments online and then participate in a 2-day workshop to consolidate achievements and demonstrate skills in manual handling techniques, presenting and mentoring. It is suggested that participants have a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the 2-day workshop to complete the online learning and assessments

Participants must have a current Manual handling certificate

Cultural Awareness in Clinical Practice
CPD 6 hours

Principle 3.1: Code of Conduct for Nurses states:

In supporting the health of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, nurses must:

  • Provide care that is holistic, free of bias and racism, challenges belief based upon assumption and is culturally safe and respectful for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • advocate for and act to facilitate access to quality and culturally safe health services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people’s and
  • Recognise the importance of family, community, partnership and collaboration in the healthcare decision-making of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, for both prevention strategies and care delivery.

This Cultural Awareness in Clinical Practice Workshop firstly looks at the impact of Colonisation on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people’s and then examines how to put this knowledge into practice in a clinical setting that has both best practice outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and the health professionals working with them.

The ANMF (SA) in conjunction with David Copley (Aboriginal Elder and RN) has been successfully providing this training to Nurses and other Health Professionals for over 7 years.
