Allity Aged Care – removal of Enrolled Nurses off roster/decrease in care hours

ANMF (SA Branch) members who have “liked” our Facebook page would be aware of the issues surrounding Allity Aged Care currently.

At their Walkerville and Charles Young facilities, Allity had proposed to remove all Enrolled Nurses (‘EN’s’) off their rosters, decrease overall hours, and also require Personal Care Worker’s (‘PCW’s’) to undertake medication administration.

ANMF have been leafleting the 2 facilities and gathering information from members and resident’s families regarding their concerns with these proposals, and as well as written and verbal feedback over the last few weeks, and have provided final feedback at a meeting on Wednesday afternoon (10 February).

Less than 36 hours later, on 12 February, Allity advised ANMF that the consultation around their proposed changes to staffing had ceased and that new rosters would be implemented as of 7 March. Redundancy notices were being issued to Enrolled Nurses.

Despite numerous and serious concerns identified by ANMF, residents and family members, Allity are proceeding with their plan of implementing rosters that:

  • will remove Enrolled Nurses from the workforce;
  • require Personal Care Workers to administer medication, with fewer qualified nursing staff to provide the required clinical assessment, treatment and support; and
  • provide less overall care hours (in the order of 8-10% reductions) despite increasing levels and complexity of care needed by residents.

ANMF’s position remains that this will put resident care at risk, as well as have harmful impact on the workloads and wellbeing of our Registered Nurse and Personal Care Worker members remaining in the workplace.

Allity management will be seeking to meet with those nurses receiving redundancy notices – ANMF urges affected members NOT to meet with management without an ANMF representative. We have arranged block times with Allity management for the ANMF Aged Care Industrial Officer to attend both sites to attend meetings with members:
