SafeWork at James Nash House after three nurses attacked

17 May 2023

Three SafeWork SA workers have attended James Nash House following advocacy by the ANMF (SA Branch) over an incident where three nurses were attacked.

The nurses required medical treatment at an urgent care clinic following the May 1 assault by a patient at the forensic mental health facility.

Following the incident, ANMF (SA Branch) officers conducted a Right of Entry (ROE) under Section 117 of the Work Health & Safety Act relating to workplace violence.

Alerted by the ANMF (SA Branch), the incident received widespread newspaper, television and radio coverage.

“It is always disappointing when basic levels of safety for employees are not maintained by employers,” CEO/Secretary Adj Associate Professor Elizabeth Dabars AM told a press conference.

The ANMF (SA Branch) escalated the issue with SafeWork SA and we have requested a management plan for the violent patient.
