Labor’s dual $400m pledge to fix FMC

10 May 2022

Federal Labor has committed to a $400 million revamp of the Flinders Medical Centre if it wins the May 21 federal election, with State Labor sharing half the cost.

The upgrade of the Bedford Park hospital in the marginal seat of Boothby will result in more than 100 extra beds, a larger ICU and new operating theatres.

This is on top of a 24-bed FMC expansion promised by SA Labor during the state election campaign.

“Over a decade in office, Scott Morrison has failed to invest in the future of Flinders Medical Centre or help South Australia fix its unprecedented ramping crisis,” Mr Albanese said.

“I want to partner with Peter Malinauskas to give people in southern Adelaide the medical care they deserve.’’

Mr Malinauskas, who promised an extra 300 hospital beds for SA during his election campaign, said this latest investment would “dramatically” reduce pressure on the state’s overall hospital network.
