The State Government is currently working to introduce a safe, accessible scheme for voluntary assisted dying that gives South Australians with a terminal illness choice at the end of life in line with the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2021.
All South Australian health services will need to be prepared for the commencement of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Scheme. Once implemented, health practitioners may receive requests for information from patients about voluntary assisted dying.
SA Health is seeking feedback from health and medical practitioners through an online survey about their willingness and capacity to participate in South Australia’s Voluntary Assisted Dying Scheme.
To help the department understand how best to support health and medical practitioners, SA Health wants to hear about the willingness and capacity of practitioners to participate in a range of voluntary assisted dying activities, from providing information to administering medication to an eligible person.
SA Health invites all health and medical practitioners to participate in the survey
The survey will be publicly available on SA Health’s website and will remain open for the duration of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Implementation Project.
Participants can choose to remain anonymous and de-identified responses will be used to inform service planning and design for the Voluntary Assisted Dying Scheme.
