Aged care providers agree to pay for RAT time

23 March 2022

The ANMF (SA Branch) wrote to five aged care providers following reports from members that staff were being required to attend their shift 15 or 20 minutes early to complete a Rapid Antigen Test in unpaid time.

The ANMF (SA Branch) has consistently advocated that any staff who are directed to attend work early for testing purposes must be paid from the earlier commencement time. However, it is preferred practice for RAT kits to be given to staff so that they can perform testing at home.

Following contact from the ANMF, the aged care providers have agreed to pay all time worked, with most now providing staff with RAT kits for self-administration at home.

If your employer issues you with a directive to attend your shift early, you are entitled to be paid for any additional time worked. If you have any queries regarding your entitlements, please contact the Duty Officer on 8334 1900 or [email protected].
