Safety at Port Lincoln Hospital a ‘joke’

26 March 2021

A fired-up Elizabeth Dabars let fly on ABC radio this week following a no-show from SA Health over the issue of safety at Port Lincoln Hospital.

With the court case about the bashing of an ED nurse in the Port Lincoln Hospital dominating news headlines this week, ABC Eyre Peninsula brekkie host Emma Pedler had wanted to speak with Health Minister Stephen Wade “or someone from SA Health” about any changes made to improve safety at the hospital since the 2019 attack.

Instead, she received a written statement from the Eyre and Far North Local Health Network CEO Verity Paterson, saying safety was “always our top priority’’.

Someone who did front up on the airwaves was ANMF (SA Branch) CEO/Secretary Adj. Associate Professor Elizabeth Dabars. And she didn’t mince her words.

“Look, can I just say from the outset that for you to be given a written statement and no one to come on air to speak in person and to answer any questions from your listeners is an absolute cop-out,’’ Ms Dabars told Ms Pedler.

“The statement itself (the fact that they’ve said that staff safety is a top priority and violence is not tolerated) is a complete JOKE and completely unaccepted and rejected by us as a statement of fact.’’

It all made for riveting radio. Listen to the audio (courtesy of Emma and the ABC) by following the link, here.
