Come celebrate May Day with us

13 April 2021

Eight hours to work,

Eight hours to play,

Eight hours to sleep,

Eight bob a day.

A fair day’s work,

For a fair day’s pay.

May 1 is May Day, a day which celebrates the power of unions globally in achieving better working conditions - such as the eight-hour working day - and also the achievements of working people.

This May Day, Saturday, May 1, ANMF (SA Branch) members are invited to meet at the SA Maritime Museum, 126 Lipson St, Port Adelaide, at 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

We will march to the May Day community event outside the Waterside Workers Hall in Nile St, Port Adelaide. The family-friendly festivities, which wind up at 5pm, will feature bands, speeches, an auction, food trucks, bars, a petting zoo and an ANMF stall detailing our campaigns.

This year’s May Day will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Port Adelaide’s Workers Memorial and there will also be a free public exhibition of trade union banners, old and new, at the Maritime Union Meeting Hall in St Vincent St (entrance via Hare St between St Vincent and Nile streets).

The exhibition will run 10am to 4pm, weekends, from May 1 to May 16.

Please note we require strict adherence with COVID regulations. Physical distancing of 1.5m and contract tracing via QR code will apply. Masks are encouraged.
