On the lighter side of life: Wiggle into a whole new world

7 May 2020

Art gallery tours, cabaret and fringe shows, even social distancing Wiggles … there’s a whole new world of online activities to indulge in during these uncertain times, thanks to a new website initiative.

Today the State Government launched Open Your World, a new state-wide wellbeing strategy, platform and campaign.

Open Your World is a single source of information, with a dedicated website promoting wellbeing, including tips on staying healthy, activities for kids and online resources for learning and skill development.

It aims to help South Australians build resilience and support physical, social, mental and community wellbeing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There’s a ‘Play in Crisis’ booklet for parents on how to keep to the kids healthy in mind, body and soul during lockdown; as well as a raft of videos featuring such favourites as the Wiggles, Sesame Street and Peppa Pig.

The many options for adults include live streamed and video-taped cabaret, Fringe and Womad shows, classical music, folk, jazz, even Writers’ Week podcasts.

Or you can take a virtual tour of the Art Gallery, State Library and SA Museum.

“Skill Development” includes learning a new language or acquiring a better grasp of finances.

There are tips too on gardening, healthy nutrition, what to plant and when, as well as a guide to parks and green spaces in your area for outdoor activities.

Another segment is dedicated to the human health benefits of pets.

“There’s never been a better time to open your world,’’ says Open Your World ambassador, media personality Andrew “Cosi” Costello.

“This is your chance to reset and focus on the beauty of the small things in life.’’
