Seeking your views on eliminating the use of restraint and seclusion in mental health services

21 November 2019

The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist is currently preparing a new standard to reduce and eliminate where possible the use of Restrictive Practices under the Mental Health Act. This is also in response to recommendations in the ICAC Oakden review.

This standard will apply to all Mental Health facilities and will also apply when people are restrained and secluded using Mental Health Act powers in other parts of the hospital.

The Chief Psychiatrist is seeking your views, particularly if you work within emergency departments and geriatric units on the current Draft Chief Psychiatrist Standard on Eliminating the Use of Restraint and Seclusion in Mental Health Services.

Help to inform the ANMF (SA Branch) submission to the draft document and email your feedback to [email protected] by 5pm on Tuesday 26 November 2019.
