Public Sector Enterprise Bargaining: Update #1

11 July 2019

On Tuesday 9 July 2019, bargaining representatives from the ANMF (SA Branch) met for a second time with the Department of Treasury and Finance (your employer) and representatives from SA Health and the Department for Human Services. At this meeting, both parties tabled their logs of claims for the 2019 enterprise agreement.

As previously communicated to members, details of the ANMF log of claims can be found here .

Your employer tabled two key claims that it seeks as part of the negotiations:

  • Cap the current agreed minimum nursing/midwifery hours per patient day for all patient care areas listed in Appendix 2; and
  • The reduction of length of the night shift from 10 hours to 9.5 hours.

The parties have reserved discussion about any potential wage increase which we anticipate will be addressed further into the negotiations.

Neither of the employer claims have been explored in any detail at this stage of negotiations.  Clearly the ANMF has significant concerns with the proposed changes in night shift length and how it could impact on permanent night workers, professional development and rostering/staffing.  As proposals from the employer are clarified member feedback on them will be sought in order to finalise an appropriate formal response by your negotiating team.

From here, we have scheduled weekly meetings to progress the negotiations. Members will be updated weekly and all relevant information will be available at the dedicated webpage: anmfsa.org.au/standup/
