Aged Care CCTV trial delayed, set to start next year

8 November 2019

The State Government has announced that CCTV will be trialled in five South Australian aged care homes from early next year at Northgate House, Mount Pleasant Aged Care, Waikerie Health Services, Bordertown Memorial Hospital and Port Pirie Regional Health Service.

The trial is months behind schedule with the Government announcing a new public tender will be required to source a technology supplier after it was decided not to proceed with the original provider.

The ANMF maintains its position that installing CCTV at aged care facilities is a band-aid solution, rather than addressing the inherent issues plaguing the sector, including staffing, training, nutrition and funding.

The ANMF is pleased all of these issues were identified as contributing to a system of neglect in the Royal Commission’s report released last month. Royal Commission hearings are now continuing, with a focus on rural and regional multi-purpose sites.
