Happy International Nurses Day!

Year of Health and Care Workers

Today we celebrate and acknowledge the crucial role you play in our community and just how amazing you and your colleagues really are.

Special days like Nurses Day and Midwives Day provide us an opportunity to reflect on who we are as a profession.

Throughout our history, ANMF members have achieved many amazing things. You can feel very proud to be part of this incredible legacy.

Our work today not only improves the lives of the current workforce, but also that future generations.

International Year of Health and Care Workers 2021

The year 2021 has been unanimously designated by the World Health Assembly as the International Year of Health and Care Workers (YHCWs) in recognition of the dedication and sacrifice of the millions of health and care workers at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) estimated in October that at least 1,500 nurses have died since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The real figure is likely to be much higher as the relevant data was only collected from 44 of the world’s 195 countries. It’s believed COVID-19 health worker fatalities worldwide could surpass 20,000.

World Health Assembly member states and non-state actors in unison, spoke to the critical role of health and care workers in ensuring health and prosperity, the WHO said. They emphasised the urgency and imperative to address persistent health worker challenges.
